Can Laughter Benefit My Health?

As we age, we tend to lose the carefree qualities we have as children. Laughter shouldn't be one of them but very commonly is! As adults we laugh so little and stress so much. Yes, life can be unbelievably hard! But if we can find ways to have fun and laugh through the chaos, it can help take some of the heaviness away.


Humour can shed light in dark situations. It can inspire hope, improve relationships, keep you grounded, encourage forgiveness, inspire motivation and even release anger.


Laughter holds so much power to heal but as adults, we tend to leave that power untapped. The ability to laugh easily and often is a powerful resource for life's on-going problems, enhancing relationships and supporting mental health!


On top of making life feel lighter, laughter can benefit our physical health as well!

  • Laughter decreases the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline

  • It increases immune cells and infection fighting antibodies, which helps improve your ability to fight disease

  • It triggers endorphins, the body's feel-good chemicals that promote a sense of well being

  • A good laugh can relaxes the muscles for up to 45 minutes

  • It improves blood flow to protect the heart

  • It can act as a natural pain killer

  • Many studies have found that people with a strong sense of humour tend to live longer than those that don't! So, it could be argued that laughter can even help you to live longer!

Laughter has always been said to be "the best medicine". I whole-heartedly believe this to be true. We have one life my friends, it doesn't need to be taken so seriously.
